24-Hour Media Challenges

Since live-performance was put on halt in 2020, I began exploring improvisational media as a form of creative magic. In this exploration I stayed true to my commitment to the mystery through giving myself a time-limit: to write, film, record, and edit a music video in no-more than 24-hours. In this creative practice, I don't plan or storyboard my videos. Instead, I take my camera with me into my everyday life and puzzle the pieces together as montages of moment. This approach to media is in direct protest to the toxic perfectionism of today’s production standards which can easily become oppressive to our creative spirit and authentic expression. In these 24-hour media challenges, there’s simply not enough time to iron out the wrinkles that are, actually, what brings the magic to life. I use only the most elementary and accessible tools because the need to use expensive and complicated equipment is an economic and cultural form of artistic oppression that I resist. Each video is a prayer for our creative liberation, organic expression, and deep love.
*this video was not made in 24 hours. I filmed it myself and sent it to a professional editor who edited out every bit of edgy material that I gave him (as if I sent him super raw stuff for his benefit only). To save my art, I narrated the story myself and vowed that I would never again give my power up to an editor.
